Hope Church Celebrates the Opening of the New Commons!

The transformation of the former sanctuary at Hope Church in Mason is complete! Introducing the new Commons, a dramatic adaptive reuse of a former sanctuary space which has become a dynamic new social hub connecting the church ministry to the community through education, social gatherings, and events.

The new amenities are apparent as soon as visitors arrive at the main entry and are greeted by a helpful new welcome desk situated in front of a soaring stone wall.  This information center (pictured below) is a focal point of the extensively remodeled main lobby space.  A kitchenette and coffee area to the left, and a comfortable lounge to the right, both enhance the original lobby which flows smoothly into the new Commons under the mezzanine walkway.   Both daylight and worshipers meander into the central social space, which leads to the new “Gathering” sanctuary addition at the far end of the Commons.

Once under the bridge and inside the Commons, the visitor is greeted with a cozy fireplace nook for casual socialization.  The space opens up to a high ceiling punctuated with “clouds” that introduce lighting, ventilation and an interplay of shade and shadow with the original ceiling above.  Distinct seating groups for work, study, and conversation float on a polished concrete floor.

At the other end of this space is a central video wall between the two entrances to the recently completed Gathering addition.  The direct connection to this sanctuary space allows the Commons to act as a high-capacity lobby before and after services.  Large classrooms on two levels flank each side, and in the photo below, one of the mezzanine level classrooms can be seen from the bridge that connects the spaces on this level.  In addition to classrooms, new meeting rooms, prayer room, storage, and toilet rooms surround the Commons, adding to its versatility.

Childress & Cunningham has been honored to work alongside Hope Church to bring this phase of their ambitious master plan to fruition.  We believe the Commons will open up yet another chapter in Hope Church’s success story in the community!
