Respect for the existing sanctuary led Childress & Cunningham to develop an addition for Madeira Presbyterian Church with a compatible but unique exterior and a bright, uplifting interior that is reverent and inspiring. The program of spaces included a library, music room, youth rooms, chapel, infant/toddler rooms and disabled accessible facilities. Special care was given to develop increased ceiling heights without detracting from the original building design. The variation creates sound barriers as well as establishes a hierarchy of spaces and arrival points. The project was designed within budget while obtaining a chapel originally envisioned as a classroom.
